The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie by Freida McFadden
I think I am entering my novella phase. Not every book needs to be 20 plus hours on audio to be significant. I used to love the days in junior high when I would read an entire book in single day just for fun. One summer after college when I still lived in Evanston, it was so hot that I got a hotel room at the Orrington Hotel just for one day, and night, for the air conditioning. I laid in bed, and read a whole book over the course of a few hours, and I think I have never been happier. This week I listened to Freida McFadden's novella "The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie" in one day. I went for a hike, I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill, I did laundry and then packed my suitcase for an upcoming trip, and at the end of the day this book was complete. And, boy, can Freida McFadden weave a wicked little tail of intrigue, deception and murder! Alice has recently buried her husband after he died in a car accident. But while at the store to buy shampoo, she sees her husband alive. Is she seeing things? Is she dreaming? What is happening? How can this be? Or did she bury someone other than her husband? Freida McFadden is the pen name for Sarah Cohen, who, when she is not writing, is a doctor specializing in brain disorders and injuries. She is best known for the Housemaid series but I am here to report that this novella is one of the best little thrillers I have ever read, in a day or any day. To buy this book on Amazon click here.
