Hollywood, Ending by John Gree
This is author John Green's first book for adults. Best known for novels "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Looking for Alaska," Green is the reigning king of young adult fiction. Some have said "Hollywood, Ending" is a book for adults craving their inner young selves, and if that is the case, I am down for it. "Hollywood, Ending" is the story of Kai and Juniper who meet-cute on the set of their new movie "Andy Warhol Never Gets Old." Juniper is a child actress hoping to establish herself in the adult space, and Kai is a newbie hoping for his first big break. Their time on the movie set is real, exciting, and uncomfortable all at once. Juniper and Kai take turns narrating the novel from their first meeting through production, and then the premier of their film. Like Green's other novels, the relationships smack so true in the middle of the most uncomfortable situations. He seeks to show the realism while also the quest for love and vulnerability. His themes are so true and at times painful. Yet, he takes you on a road so poignant that you want to revel in it, without blinking because of the warmth and beauty of it all. I look forward to more adult and YA books from Green in the future. To buy this book on Amazon click here.
